Kitesurf spot Punta Trettu in South Sardinia

Punta Trettu – Flat Water Kite Spot in South Sardinia

Punta Trettu, San Giovanni Suergiu, South Sardinia

Punta Trettu is located about 5 minutes from Kite House Sardinia, in the municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu, in the district of Matzaccara, just in front of the Sant’Antioco peninsula. The strip of sand that stretches for about 700 meters from the pine forest of Punta Trettu divides the Sardinian Sea from the lagoon of Sant’Antioco.

The kite spot of Punta Trettu is highly appreciated for its shallow and flat water, which makes it an ideal place to learn kitesurfing and improve freestyle skills. The wide open space inside the bay can host many kiters in total safety, while the sand tongue of Punta Trettu kite beach gives the feeling of “a beach to rely on”.

In particular, beginners can learn kitesurfing in shallow and flat water conditions, which make the learning process easier and safer. Even riders starting their first rides can benefit from the shallow lagoon, where it is possible to walk for long distances in waist-deep water when needed.

The wind blows throughout the year, increasing in intensity thanks to the thermal wind (from May to October) and the Venturi effect produced by the peculiar morphology of this stretch of coast. In particular, North-West and South-East winds, with sun or little cloudiness, can blow from 5 to 10 knots stronger than expected.

👉 Punta Trettu is also the main home spot for our kitesurf courses, where the Kite House Sardinia kitesurf school operates daily.
Thanks to its flat and shallow water, steady winds and wide open space, Punta Trettu offers ideal conditions for beginner courses, progression lessons and safe training.

Main winds

  • The North-West wind (Mistral), which predominates in Sardinia, blows strong and directly into the bay, increasing in intensity thanks to the Venturi effect and the thermal wind.
  • The South-East wind (Scirocco) blows perfectly from the opposite direction, benefiting from both the Venturi effect and the thermal wind.
  • The East wind (Levante) enters the bay, and Punta Trettu is perhaps the only kite spot on the south-west coast of Sardinia where you can kite even with this wind direction.
  • The West wind (Ponente) and South-West wind (Libeccio) blow quite well from spring to autumn, especially when the sky is not too cloudy.
  • The North wind (Tramontana) often blows strong and cold in the bay during the entire winter season, sometimes exceeding 50 knots.
