Porto Botte – Kite Spot in South Sardinia with Strong Wind
Porto Botte is located about 10 minutes by car from Kite House Sardinia, between the municipalities of San Giovanni Suergiu and Giba.
In Porto Botte there are two kite spots: once you reach the sea, you can continue to the right and reach “Il Fortino”, where the water is flat and deep. Continuing to the left, you reach the other side of Porto Botte, where the water is slightly choppier and shallower, with a launching corridor and a dedicated rescue service available on site.
The kite spot of Porto Botte is highly appreciated for its flat water and strong wind, making it a great place to learn kitesurfing and to improve freestyle skills. The two kite areas inside the bay can host a large number of kiters in complete safety.
The wind blows throughout the year, increasing in intensity thanks to the thermal wind (from May to October) and the Venturi effect produced by the unique morphology of this stretch of coast. In particular, the North-West wind, with sun or little cloudiness, often blows 5 to 10 knots stronger than expected.
Punta Trettu is our main spot for kitesurf courses, beginner lessons and kids training, thanks to its flat and shallow water conditions.
Porto Botte, on the other hand, is mainly dedicated to advanced riding and performance coaching.
With stronger wind and more dynamic conditions, it is an excellent spot for big air training, kite loops and freestyle progression.
Thanks to collaborations with experienced local coaches, we offer advanced coaching sessions in South Sardinia for riders who already have solid skills and want to push their limits in a safe and structured way.

Main winds
- The North-West wind (Mistral), which predominates in Sardinia, blows strong and directly into the Gulf of Palmas, increasing in intensity thanks to the thermal wind and the Venturi effect.
- The South-East wind (Scirocco) blows from the opposite direction and is often slightly gusty and side-off.
- The West wind (Ponente) and the South-West wind (Libeccio) blow well from spring to autumn, especially when the sky is not too cloudy.
- The North wind (Tramontana) often blows strong and cold in the bay throughout the winter season, sometimes exceeding 50 knots.
