BIG AIR JUNIOR BATTLE – SARDINIA EDITION
THE WCKA JUNIOR BIG AIR COMPETITION IN SARDINIA.
Are you a young kiter aged 12 to 19 who wants to have your first real competition experience? Are you looking to make new friends and have a great time shredding with young kiters from around the world? If so, then you should join us from April 19th to 21st in Sardinia for the inaugural international Big Air Kitesurfing competition organized by the World Class Kiteboard Academy crew.
This year, the World Class Kiteboard Academy is returning to one of our favourite and most reliable spots, Punta Trettu, in Sardinia, Italy. With the idea of getting more young people involved in recreational and competitive big air kitesurfing, the Academy has decided to take advantage of the amazing conditions and host the first-ever international junior big air competition in the south of Sardinia. This competition will be open to everybody from the age of 12 to 19, regardless of their level of competition.
Whether it’s your first big air competition or your tenth, we invite everybody to come down and join us in this amazing event. We are excited to host this event in this amazing spot with strong, steady winds and flat water, as well as to create an inclusive atmosphere for everybody to have fun, meet other riders, and push their level (together) in kiting to the next level.
WHAT IS WCKA AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
The World Class Kiteboarding Academy is one of the four branches of the World Class Academy, which consists of different academies designed to take young kids to the next level in their respective sports while also providing them with a top-notch academic education.
The World Class Academy Kite focuses on taking young kitesurfers who are in high school from around the world to the next level of kiteboarding. They provide professional coaching on and off the water and ensure that student-athletes always have the best conditions to train and improve their skills every single day of the year.
To ensure this, the school year is divided into four quarters, each around 6-7 weeks long. Each of these quarters is held in a different place in the world, including some of the most famous kite spots like the amazing lagoons in Brazil, providing perfect old-school and freestyle conditions and flat water, or Cape Town, providing more extreme riding conditions with stronger wind and kickers, perfect for those adrenaline seekers who love to pull some massive loops or ride big waves.
WCKAโs focus is maximizing studentsโ progression in academics, fitness, and kiting, preparing them for whatever their future goals may be, whether they just want to enjoy kiting recreationally or they want to push the level of kiting to the next level and compete against other riders in pursuit of world championships. One of the main goals of WCKA is to grow individuals with integrity, by providing learning experiences that help them develop character, as well as academically and athletically. The relationships students develop as they navigate unfamiliar environments and push past their own social, athletic, and intellectual limits provide support for their growth. With their mentors, students are encouraged to reflect regularly on their growth as athletes, students, and human beings.
At the end of every quarter, the coaches, together with the student body, organize what we call a โschool compโ: a fun and enjoyable competition in which all the students are encouraged to participate.
The intention of these shool competitions is to introduce students who have never competed to the competitive atmosphere in a fun way, while also pushing those who are more experienced and have a higher skill level to continue improving and training for more significant competitions in their careers. This initiative helps students become accustomed to the competitive lifestyle, while also providing them with an opportunity to showcase their progress and newly acquired tricks to others.
